LICHTENSTEIN - Dots, Stripes and Strokes

3rd March - 3rd April 2004

The art of Roy Lichtenstein made its impact in the New York art-world in 1961, provoking reactions for his combined imagery of melodramatic comics, popular consumer advertising and ever-increasing sense of humour.

The lightning rise of success suprised even Roy Lichtenstein himself, with major museums competing to acquire works. Yet his popularity has remained constant as prices continue to achieve record highs at auction. To this day, his art is considered cool and timeless, crossing generational barriers with impact and immediate recognition.

To coincide with the major retrospective at the Hayward Gallery - The Andipa Gallery London presents 30 signed works by Roy Lichtenstein through four decades of his artistic career. Many of his most important prints being made available. The exhibition is accompanied with a fully illustrated catalogue containing the artist's biography by eminent art critic, Edward Lucie-Smith (courtesy of Thames & Hudson).
